Glaucoma Evaluation & Glaucoma Treatment

Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve and a leading cause of blindness in the United States. An estimated 2.3 million Americans aged 40 and over have glaucoma, which occurs when fluid pressure builds up in the eye and damages optic nerve fibers. Glaucoma develops slowly and without warning symptoms. Only regular eye examinations can detect it in time to treat it and prevent blindness.

Our comprehensive glaucoma screening includes the latest technology and computer-guided imaging to monitor the optic nerve and diagnose the progression of glaucoma. We measure intraocular eye pressure (IOP) because elevated IOP is considered a major risk factor for the development of glaucoma. We evaluate each patient’s visual field. If we find that you are at risk or have already developed glaucoma, we will work with you to find the right therapy to decrease intraocular pressure and prevent further damage to your optic nerve.

Your treatments may include eyedrops, medication, laser glaucoma treatment to open the drainage angle and reduce intraocular pressure, or surgery to create a new passage for fluid drainage. Surgery is usually reserved for glaucoma that cannot be controlled with medication or after appropriate laser treatment.
